I am living in Delhi since the last 37 years and I can say that some times I love to just get out of Delhi to go away from the hustle, or even move out completely. What ever may be your reason, below is a list of cities near Delhi which you can visit for a short stay or permanently.

1. Jaipur, Rajasthan

1st City near Delhi

Distance: 265 KM
Best Route: Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
Famous for: Tourism & Pink City

Jaipur s 250 km from Delhi and you can reach here by train (4 hour), flight (1 hour) or by road (5 hour).

You can even stay at one of many resorts on Delhi Jaipur highway (Kukas) or spend a weekend here and visit Jaipur tourist sites in 2 days.

2. Chandigarh, Union Territory

Famous for: Cleanest city in India

2nd in the list of best cities near Delhi is Chandigarh. Its also the cleanest city in India, and as per me the best city to move in as it has everything.

A nice International Airport, Train Station, and you can visit hill stations like Shimla, Manali in 2-4 hours from here.

3. Agra, Uttar Pradesh

Distance: 225 KM
Best Route: Yamuna Expressway
Famous for: Tourism & Taj Mahal

Not the best city to move, else if you are a fan of Mughal architecture. Agra is 225 km from Delhi, 3 hour drive from Yamuna Expressway and the most visited tourist city in India, all thanks to Taj Mahal.

You can plan a same day Agra tour from Delhi, and enjoy an Agra sightseeing tour and then come back to Delhi on same day.

Famous for: High Riser Towers

Just next to Delhi airport, Gurgaon is heaven for people searching for high rise towers, shopping malls with amazing activities like trampoline park, or see some of the best clubs near Delhi.

5. Rishikesh, Uttarakhand

Rishikesh is 4-5 hour drive from Delhi and is the best city to spend a weekend away from the capital.

6. Mathura & Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh

Mathura is a city & Vrindavan is just 14 km drive away, and they are some of the most visited cities near Delhi, as here you can visit the Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple (Mathura) and the famous Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan.

Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand and is 240 km from Delhi.

You can reach here by road, train & flight, as Dehradun has Jolly Grant Airport, and with the new expressway you can reach Dehradun in just 3 hours.

Best Route: Delhi Dehradun Expressway
Famous for: Mall road, Waterfalls

Well no discussion of best cities in Delhi can’t be completed without mentioning Mussoorie.

Mussoorie is 290 km from Delhi, and via new expressway you an reach here in 3-4 hours.

Mussoorie is also the closest hill station form Delhi and a perfect weekend holiday destination.

I have been to Mussoorie many times with my family, and even once on a school trip.

9. Meerut, Uttar Pradesh

Best Route: Delhi Meerut Expressway
Famous for: 2nd home destination

Meerut has become one of the fastest growing city near Delhi, dur to better connectivity.

You can reach Meerut via the new expressway in an hour, and the new Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) is a game changer for the city.

10. Alwar, Rajasthan
