Agra is a historic city. Its mentioned in records of Prithviraj Chauhan, a ruler of Delhi in 10th century. And there are also some records of a city near Mathura in Mahabharata, mentioned as a city of Shiva followers.
And today we have shared a list of Top 10 temples in Agra, plus 1 more and surprisingly majority of them are Shiv Mandir.
1. Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple

Opened on 9 March 2023, Shri Khatu Shyam Ji Temple is the biggest Khatu Shyam ji temple in whole Uttar Pradesh, inspired by the temple in oldest KhatuShyam ji temple in Rajasthan.
This is a 3 story temple in Agra Jeoni Mandi area, where the main idol of Khatu Shyam is made of rare stone, and its open from 5:30 am to 9 pm, daily.
For those who don;t know about Khatu Shyam Maharaj, he is the son of Ghatotkacha and grandson of Bhima & Hidimbi, and is prayed as same as praying Shri Krishan.
2. Shri Mankameshwar Mandir

Shri Mankameshwar Mandir is one of the oldest temple in Agra, much older that Taj Mahal. As per the local pujari, this Shiv temple is more than 5000 year old, and was built by Pandavas, when they were on exile for 13 years.
Well we can’t confirm the above fact but its true than in last 1000 years, many rulers of Agra have renovated this temple, and during festivals like Maha Shivaratri, Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, this is the most crowded temple in Agra.
The temple is in Rawatpara, open from 5:30 am to 8:30 pm.
3. Dayalbagh Temple

Dayalbagh Temple is a Radha Soami faith temple, and one of top 10 tourist place in Agra. This temple is one of the biggest Radha Soami temple, and know for its unique & beautiful architecture, peaceful atmosphere.
The work on this temple started in 1904 but the detailing construction took more than 76 tears & it was open for public in 1980.
Inside you will find the Samadhi of Soamiji Maharaj, the founder of the Radha Soami faith and there is also an guest house, Canteen, Souvenir shop, Library, Museum which shows the history of Radha Soamis.

4. Balkeshwar Mahadev Mandir

Balkeshwar Mahadev Mandir is dedicated to Mahadev Shiv, and is more than 700 years old.
The temple is on the banks of Yamuna river and as per the pujari ji here, a cow was roaming in this area, near the river and at one place she started mooing loudly which attracted the attention of all nearby villagers. At that same place, a Shiv Ling was found and an Shiv temple was constructed here by the people.
You will find many locals here, especially on Monday and you can also visit this temple from 5 am to 9 pm.
5. Langde ki chowki Hanuman Mandir

The Langde ki chowki is the oldest Hanuman Temple in Agra, said to be 400-500 year old, built in 16th century. The location of the temple is in Langde ki Chowki, and thus the name “Langde ki Chowki Hanuman Mandir” became popular.
The story behind this temple is that a Lame man (handicap from legs) who was also a security guard was posted in this area at that time maharaja here. He started having visions of Mahaveer Hanuman ji when he was posted here and thus at his own expenses, he built a Hanuman Temple here.
6. Prithvinath Temple

Named after a popular Hindu King of Ajmer & Delhi, Prithviraj Chauhan, this is an anther old Shiv temple in Agra, which is believed to be built in 10-11 the century.
As per the locals we met in the temple, Agra was also a part of Delhi kingdom under Prithviraj Chauhan, and the king was a strong Shiva devotee. And when Prithviraj Chauhan took the control of Delhi, he use to visit this Shiv temple often.
Plus in Mughal records, Emperor Akbar also gave grant to this temple and Swami Vivekananda also visited in temple in 19th century.
7. Rawli Temple

This temple was constructed by Raja Mansingh, who was the commander of Akbar.
As per locals, the shivling in this temple was brought by Raja Mansingh when we was in a war with Afghan tribes. During the battle, he found a shivling type stone on the ground. and brought it in his camp, and next day, he miraculously won the battle. When he came back to Agra, he also brought that stone and constructed Rawli Temple with that Stone as Shivlinng.
There is also one more story attached to this temple. During the British time, a British engineer ordered to demolish this temple for a rail line but was not able to. As not even a single piece of temple wall came out.
He even brought heavy machinery to break the temple walls but even that attempt was unsuccessful. Later he understand that there is some greater power protecting this temple, and he himself moved the rail lines away from this temple.
8. Kailash Mandir

Kailash Temple in Agra, is an anther Shiv temple built by a local ruler, and this time its Raja Surajmal.
Raja Surajmal is a very famous Jat ruler of Agra and many surrounding area, and as per a local legend Raja Surajmal had a dream where Mahadev Shiv himself came in his dreams.
So taking this as a good omen, Raja Surajmal sent a team of his men to Mount Kailash, which is in Tibet today, and bring a Shivling form there to Agra. His team bought 2 of such unique Shivling and this Kailash Temple was constructed in Agra.
This temple is in Raja Bainpur Mustkil area of Agra and you can visit it any time between 5 am to 9 pm.
9. Prachin Rajeshwar Mahadev Temple

And the last Shiv Temple in our list of Temples in Agra is Prachin Rajeshwar Mahadev Mandir. This temple is also a historical temple built in 12th century and its construction cost was handled by a local business men who brought a Shivling from Narmada riven in Madhya Pradesh.
Not much more information is available about this temple and you can visit this temple in Shamsabad area of Agra from 6 am to 9 pm.
10. Gurudwara Guru Ka Taal

And this is our 1st Sikh Temple/ Gurudwara included in the list and its Gurudwara Guru Ka Taal in Sikandra, near Akbar Tomb.
The Gurudwara was built by Sant Baba Sadhu Singh Ji for the memory of the ninth Guru, Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, as this is the same place where Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji offered himself up for arrest to Aurangzeb to protect Kashmiri Brahmin. Later Guru ji was given death penalty in Delhi, as Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji stood for religious freedom right for all Hindus.
Today Gurudwara Guru Ka Taal is one of top 5 places to visit in Agra in a day, and here you will see golden dome, a sacred pool (sarovar), langar hall (community kitchen), beautiful garden, and be ready find good crowd on all Gurpurabs, Shaheedi Diwas, Diwali & Baisakhi.
11. Chintamani Parshwanath Swetamber Jain Temple

And the last temple which we would like to share in this list is “Chintamani Parshwanath Swetamber Jain Temple” which is one of the oldest Jain temples in India, dedicated to Shree Parshwanath, the 23rd Tirthankara of Jainism.
This Jain temple was constructed in 12th century by a Jain Businessmen, named Chintamani, and here you will find many beautiful architecture, intricate carvings, and peaceful atmosphere.
This is a 3 story temple, made of marble stone and festivals like Paryushan Parv, Mahavir Jayanti, Akshay Tritiya, you will find good crowd. The temple is situated on Roshan Mohalla, Maulana Azad Road.
