Nathmal ki Haveli is named after Diwan Mohata Nathmal, who was a Prime Minister of Jaisalmer kingdom. It was built in the 19th century by two architect brothers called Hathi and Lulu.

According to popular stories, the brothers started to work on the haveli from two different sides, and this is why you will be able to see two different architectural styles in the outer structure of this haveli.
