Distance, time & on-route sites
Distance & time: From Haridwar you can straight away reach the Gangorti dham. This route is like: Haridwar > Rishikesh > New Tehri > Uttarakashi (best for hotel stay) > Harsil > Gangotri. It will take around 9 hours to reach Gangotri, as its 286 km drive from Haridwar.
About Uttarkashi: Uttarkashi is quite popular among Char Dham travelers, as on day 3 of Yatra from Haridwar, many prefer Uttarkashi as Base camp for Gangotri temple visit. The Gangotri temple is 99 km from here & takes 3-4 hour time to reach. Anther destination which you can prefer to stay is Harsil which is just 25 km drive from Gangotri dham temple.
On-route Sites: From Haridwar to Gangotri, you can plan to visit some popular tourist destinations like Mukhba Temple & Kalp Kedar Temple in Harsil, Tehri dam and also checkout Le ROI, Floating Huts resort.
Plus you can also plan to give 1-2 days for Mussoorie hill station which is close from Haridwar or also visit peaceful hill stations like site like Kanatal & Dhanaulti.

Its not possible to plan a same day trip from Haridwar to Gangotri, as you will be just travelling more than 650 km on hill in a day. So its best to plan a 2 days trip and you can have three options for night stay.
Ist is Uttarkashi which is popular as base camp site for Char dham, but itsstill 100 km before the main temple site. Thus we suggest to ether book a room at Gangotr dham area or Harshil which is 25 km away from Gangotri dham temple.

Opening & closing date of Gangotri Dham
Opening date: On Akshaya Tritiya, which os April 22 2023, its the opening date of Gangotri temple.
Closing date: After Diwali, which is November 13 2023, its the date when temple will be closed for winters.
