Char Dham Yatra dates

The Yatra will start on 30-April-25 when Yamunotri & Gangotri Dham will open. Then on 2 & 4-May-25 for Kedarnath & Badrinath Dham temple will open. By 20 & 21-Oct-2025 and 6-Nov-25, all the Char Dham Temples will be closed.

Weather Update

All year round, it’s winter in Kedarnath and Badrinath, where the maximum temperature reaches 14°C and the lowest drops to -8°C in winter. So, bring good warm clothes and basic cold medicine.

  • Day 1: Delhi to Haridwar & local sightseeing

    In morning, we will leave for Haridwar from Delhi, 4 hour drive, and check-in at the booked hotel in Haridwar. Later you can self explore a few temples & ghat, and also try local food like Aloo Puri.

    Local places to visit: Hari ki pauri ghat, Maa Mansa Devi, Maa Chandi Devi, & Bharat Mata temple.

  • Day 2: Haridwar to Barkot & rest.

    Haridwar to Barkot is a 185 km drive that takes 5-6 hour time. So we will leave Haridwar by morning  & reach Barkot by 4 pm, or 5. Then you will check-in at the booked hotel & rest for the day.

    Local places to visit: Lakha Mandal Shiv Temple, & Shani Dev Temple (Winter Seat of Yamunotri Dham)

  • Day 3: Yamunotri Dham Yatra.

    From Barkot, we will leave after light breakfast, as today you will walk 5-6 km from Janki Chatti (30 km from Barkot, which we will reach in our cab). You can cover this distance by walking or by taking a horse & palki ride.

    Upon reaching the main temple area, first have a dip in Surya kund, and then have the darshan of Yamunotri Dham. Then after a light lunch, head back to Janki Chatti, where we will pick you up & drop at the booked hotel in Barkot for night stay.

    Local places to visit: Surya Kund & Yamunotri Dham Temple.

  • Day 4: Barkot to Uttarkashi & local sightseeing 

    In morning, we will leave for Uttarkashi, which is 82 km drive from Barkot and will take 3 hour time. Upon reaching Barkot by noon, you will check-in at the booked hotel & later visit a few temples in the city.

    Local places to visit: Kashi Vishwanath Temple, Shakti Temple, and Kuteti Devi Temple.

  • Day 5: Yamunotri Dham Yatra

    Today we will first drive from Uttarkashi to Gangotri. This 95 km drive that takes 4 hour time, and on route you will some of the most beautiful scenes of Uttarakhand, especially at Harsil Valley.

    The temple is just 500 meter from parking. So we will park the car and you will have the darshan in no time, apart from some high season dates.

    Local places to visit: Harsil Valley & Gangotri Dham temple.

  • Day 6: Uttarkashi to Guptkashi & local sightseeing.

    Uttarkashi to Guptkashi city distance is almost 200 km and it takes 7 hour minimum time. So we suggest to leave early and if you have the strength then also view a few temples in/ near Guptkashi, or just rest at the booked hotel. Travelers also prefer Sitapur & Sonprayag for night stay too.

    The temple is just 500 meter from parking. So we will park the car and you will have the darshan in no time, apart from some high season dates.

    Local places to visit: Vishwanath Temple & Ukhimath Temple (Winter seat of Kedarnath Dham)..

  • Day 7: Kedarnath Dham Yatra

    Today we suggest to leave early morning as you will first reach Sonprayag, which is 30 km/ 1 hour drive from Guptkashi. Then you will cover 5 km drive to Gaurikund for which only locals shared cabs are allowed, and then from Gaurikund, you will start the trek of 18 km till Kedarnath Dham.

    So if you start early, then you can reach Kedarnath Dham by late evening, or night. Your night stay will be at Kedarnath Base Camp.

    Local places to visit: Gaurikund & Kedarnath base camp.

  • Day 8: Kedarnath Dham Yatra (2nd day)

    The gates of Kedarnath Dham opens at 4 am. So wake up early to skip the crowded lines, have the sunrise darshan of baba Kedarnath and head back to Gaurikund > Sonprayag by lunch.

    By evening/ night, you will come back to Sonprayag & from there you will just sit in cab, be back at the hotel and rest for the night.

    Local places to visit: Kedarnath Dham, Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi & Shri Bhairavnath Temple.

  • Day 9: Guptkashi to Badrinath

    Guptkashi to Badrinath is a is a 190 km/ 6 hour drive, which you can start by 9-10 am, as you will be tired by the 2 days trek of Kedarnath. So today we will just plan to reach Badrinath town, and rest for the night,

    Local places to visit: Guptkashi to Badrinath highway.

  • Day 10: Badrinath Dham Yatra

    Same as Gangotri Dham, there is no trekking till Badrinath Dham. So plan an early darshan and later leave for Rudraprayag, where you will stay for the night. On route you will also see one of Panch Prayag site, where 2 rivers (Alaknanda and Mandakini) becomes 1.

    Local places to visit: Badrinath Dham & Panch Prayag.

  • Day 11: Rudraprayag to Haridwar/ Rishikesh & local sightseeing

    By early morning we will leave for Rishikesh/ Haridwar which will be a 135 km/ 4 hour drive. Then in Rishikesh & Haridwar you will visit various temples & gats & rest at the booked hotel in Haridwar.

    Local places to visit: Tera Manzil Temple, Bhootnath Temple, Triveni Ghat in Rishikesh & attend evening Ganga aarti at Har ki Pauri.

  • Day 12: Back to Delhi

    After breakfast, we will leave for Delhi, a 4-5 hour drive and with this our 12 days Char Dham Yatra will be completed.

1. Char Dham Yatra Registration

Once you have finalized your Yatra dates, you will register all travellers of your family or group, at Uttarakhand government website/ whatsapp number registration, that on which date you will visit Kedarnath Dham & Badrinath Dham. These registration will be checked by local authorities.

2. Trekking at Char Dham Yatra

There are 2+1 trekking destination where you have to walk or take a horse, palki and helicopter to reach the temple site. These are:

  • Janki Chatti to Yamunotri trek: At Yamunotri Dham Yatra, you will walk for 5-6 km from Janki Chatti to Yamunotri Dham temple. You can take a horse ride which will cost Rs 600 to 1100 per person.
  • Gaurikund to Kedarnath trek: At Kedarnath Dham Yatra, you will walk 18 km from Gaurikund (starting point) and can also take horse/ palki & helicopter. Fare for horse ride is Rs 3200 one side & around Rs 5000 to 6000 for round trip. Helicopter ride, which is very limited, cost around Rs 4500 per person, round trip.

3. Quick details on all Char Dham Temples

1st Dham: Yamunotri Dham: Visit Yamunotri Dham, the sacred temple of Mata Yamuna and the origin of the Yamuna River. Start your journey with a dip in Surya Kund hot spring and a 5 km trek from Janki Chatti.

2nd Dham: Gangotri Dham: The temple honors Mata Ganga, and this is also the starting point of the Ganga River. No trekking is needed; a car can take you to Gangotri temple. Some adventurers also trek 18 km to Gaumukh from Gangotri temple.

3rd Dham: Kedarnath Dham: Kedarnath Dham, a Jyotirlinga, lies at a glacier and is a highlight of the Char Dham Yatra. You can reach here after a 16-19 km walk from Gaurikund, Sonprayag. It’s a two-day spiritual journey.

4th Dham: Badrinath Dham: Badrinath Dham temple, dedicated to Shri Hari Vishnu, is situated in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, and accessible by road. There’s no need for trekking to reach here by car.
