7 Days Itinerary for Kedarnath Dham Yatra

Day 1: Today, you will catch the train from Pune to Delhi. Your overnight stay today will be in the train.

Day 2: Upon arrival in Delhi, our driver will meet and greet you at the railway station and then drive you to Haridwar, which is now just a 3–4 hour drive thanks to the newly opened Delhi–Dehradun Expressway.

After reaching Haridwar, you will check into the booked hotel. If time permits, you can visit Har Ki Pauri in the evening to attend the famous Ganga Aarti and also explore a few nearby temples.

Your overnight stay today will be in Haridwar.

Day 3: Today, after breakfast, you will check out from the hotel and leave for Guptkashi or Sonprayag, wherever your hotel is booked. The distance from Haridwar to Guptkashi is around 200 km and it takes approximately 6-7 hours to reach, depending upon road and weather conditions.

After checking into the hotel, you can also visit the famous Vishwanath Temple in Guptkashi and explore the local market. We suggest going to bed early today, as tomorrow you will begin your Kedarnath Dham Yatra early in the morning.

Day 4: Early in the morning around 4–5 am, we suggest leaving for Sonprayag, which is around 10 km from Guptkashi. The driver will drop you at the Sonprayag parking area, as no private taxi or tempo traveller is allowed beyond this point.

From Sonprayag, you need to take a shared Bolero taxi to Gaurikund, which is around 5 km ahead.

Gaurikund is the starting point of the Kedarnath Dham trek. From here, you will begin your 18 km long trek to Kedarnath Dham.

The trek can be completed in around 8–10 hours depending upon your walking capacity. You can also hire a horse or palki from Gaurikund, which can reduce the trekking time to around 4–5 hours.

By evening, you will reach Kedarnath Base Camp. If the crowd is manageable, then you can plan your evening or night darshan, as the Kedarnath temple remains open till 9 pm. Otherwise, you can take the token number and plan your darshan for the next morning.

Your overnight stay today will be at Kedarnath Base Camp in a guest house or GMVN Camp.

Day 5: If you could not attend the darshan yesterday, then today morning you will have the darshan of Baba Kedarnath. We suggest attending the early morning darshan around 5–6 am, as the crowd is comparatively less after the morning aarti.

The Shivling of Kedarnath Dham is unique in shape and is believed to date back to the Mahabharata era and the time of the Pandavas.

After darshan, you can also visit nearby attractions like Bhairavnath Temple, Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, Bhimshila, and other sacred sites around the temple. It is believed that Bhimshila protected the Kedarnath temple during the devastating 2013 floods.

After lunch, we suggest starting the return trek and reaching Gaurikund by evening. From Gaurikund, take the shared Bolero back to Sonprayag, where our driver will be waiting to pick you up and drop you back at your hotel in Guptkashi or Sonprayag. Your overnight stay today will be at the hotel.

Day 6: Today, you will leave for Rishikesh, which is around 180 km from Guptkashi. Upon reaching, check into the booked hotel and rest for some time.

If time and energy permit, you can also visit famous ashrams, ghats, and temples of Rishikesh and attend the evening Ganga Aarti. Your overnight stay today will be in Rishikesh.

Day 7: If your train timing is in the evening or night, then we suggest planning a half-day sightseeing tour of Rishikesh. You can visit famous places like Ram Jhula, Laxman Jhula, Parmarth Niketan Ashram, Triveni Ghat, and nearby temples.

Later, we will drive you to Delhi, which is around 240 km and takes approximately 4–5 hours. Our driver will drop you at Delhi Railway Station well before your train departure time.

With this, your Kedarnath Dham Tour Package from Pune comes to an end, and you will board your train back to Pune.

      Kedarnath Dham Yatra Registration

It is very important to register yourself before visiting Kedarnath Dham. For this, you need to visit the official Uttarakhand Government registration website: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in

Here, you can register yourself by using your mobile number or email ID along with a verification code (OTP). During the registration process, you just need to mention an approximate 15 days duration in which you are planning to visit Kedarnath Dham. After that, you will be asked to choose your expected travel date for Kedarnath Dham.

Please note that the selected date is not very strict. For example, if you choose 5th May as your travel date, you can still reach Kedarnath on 4th May or even on 6th May without major issues.

After filling in all the required details, including the names of all travelers in your group, you will receive an individual Yatra Registration Number for each person. If there are multiple travelers, you will also get a Group ID.

You must download the PDF copy of every traveler’s Yatra Registration and keep it with you during the journey. This registration will be checked at Haridwar, and only after verification will you be allowed to proceed towards Guptkashi and Kedarnath Dham.

      Kedarnath Dham Yatra Route Map

As shared in the above Kedarnath tour package itineraries, the journey to Kedarnath Dham usually begins with your arrival in Delhi. We recommend Delhi as the starting point because direct flights and trains from Pune to Delhi are much more easily available compared to Haridwar or Dehradun.

Although Dehradun also has an airport, direct flight connectivity from Pune is quite limited. After reaching Delhi, travelers can comfortably continue their journey to Haridwar either by bus, train, or private cab. Thanks to the newly developed Delhi–Dehradun Expressway, the travel time has reduced significantly, and a private cab can now reach Haridwar in less than 4 hours under normal traffic conditions.

The main Kedarnath Yatra route starts from Haridwar and continues through the beautiful Himalayan valleys in the following order:

Delhi → Haridwar → Guptkashi → Sonprayag → Gaurikund → Kedarnath Dham Trek → Kedarnath Temple Darshan → Return Trek to Gaurikund → Sonprayag → Guptkashi → Rishikesh → Delhi Departure

From Gaurikund, pilgrims begin the sacred trek to Kedarnath Dham. After completing the darshan and spiritual visit, travelers return through the same route back to Guptkashi.

During the return journey, we suggest staying in Rishikesh instead of Haridwar so that guests can experience both spiritual cities during the trip. While Haridwar is famous for Ganga Aarti and traditional pilgrimage vibes, Rishikesh offers beautiful riverfront views, cafés, temples, and adventure activities, making the overall journey more memorable and enjoyable.

All the Places You Will Visit During Kedarnath Dham Yatra

Along with having the darshan of Shri Kedarnath Dham Temple, you will also visit many famous temples, ghats, and attractions in Haridwar, Rishikesh, Guptkashi, and Ukhimath.

In Haridwar and Rishikesh, you will visit several temples and ghats and also attend the beautiful evening Ganga Aartis.

In Guptkashi, you will visit the famous Vishwanath Temple, and you can also visit the temple at Ukhimath, which is known as the winter seat of Baba Kedarnath.

You will also visit one of the Panch Prayag sites, the sacred confluence where the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers meet.

Along with this, if you can spare 1–3 extra days, then you can also visit Chopta, a beautiful hill town near Kedarnath. Here, you can visit the famous Tungnath Temple, which is considered to be almost as ancient as Kedarnath Dham itself.

FAQ on Kedarnath Tour Packages from Pune, MH:

Question 1: In how many days can I complete the Kedarnath Dham Yatra from Pune?

Answer: If you choose the train option, where you catch the train from Pune to Delhi on Day 1, then you can comfortably complete the Kedarnath Dham Yatra in 7 days.

On the first night, you will be sleeping in the train, and the remaining 5 nights will be spent in different cities of Uttarakhand, such as Haridwar, Guptkashi (2 nights), Kedarnath Dham Base Camp, and Rishikesh. By Day 7, you will return to Delhi and catch your train or flight back to Pune.

Question 2: What is the minimum cost per person for a Kedarnath Dham Tour Package from Pune?

Answer: The total cost depends upon whether you choose the train, flight, cab, or bus option.

As an estimate, Pune to Delhi return train tickets in 3rd AC generally cost around Rs. 5,000 per person. A private cab from Delhi for 6 days can cost approximately Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 21,000 in total. Budget hotels usually cost around Rs. 1,000 per person per night.

If you want to reduce the overall cost, then you can also choose the bus option, where transportation for the complete trip may cost around Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000 per person.

Question 3: Is registration for Kedarnath Dham important?

Answer: Yes, registration for Kedarnath Dham Yatra is not just important, but compulsory. Without registration, travelers can be stopped at checkpoints like Haridwar or Sonprayag.

In such cases, you may have to register on the spot, which can be risky during peak season because registrations for certain dates may already be full due to heavy crowd. The registration process is very simple, and once you book a package with us, our team can assist you in completing the registration within just 2–3 minutes.

Question 4: Is the Kedarnath trek difficult?

Answer: Yes, the Kedarnath trek can be slightly difficult because some parts of the Yatra pass through glacier regions and steep mountain terrain.

However, every year the trekking route is improved further for the convenience of pilgrims. Medical facilities have also improved significantly, and hospitals and emergency services are available near Kedarnath Base Camp.

If you are not comfortable trekking, then you can always choose horse or palki services from Gaurikund, which can help you reach Kedarnath in around 5–6 hours. Helicopter services are also available from Guptkashi, Phata, and Sersi Helipad, and they can drop you near Kedarnath Dham within 10–15 minutes.

Question 5: Can I visit Kedarnath Dham with senior citizens and children?

Answer: Yes, you can visit Kedarnath Dham with senior citizens and children, but with proper precautions. For elderly travelers, we always suggest consulting your family doctor before planning the trip, as a doctor can guide better regarding health conditions and altitude travel.

The same advice applies for children. Travelers should always carry their prescribed medicines in extra quantity. For example, if you are planning an 8-day trip, then carry medicines for at least 15–16 days. We also suggest carrying basic medicines for headache, cold, fever, motion sickness, and body pain.

Question 6: Which month is the safest to plan the Kedarnath Dham Yatra?

Answer: The safest months to plan the Kedarnath Dham Yatra are April, May, and June, as these are generally non-monsoon months with stable weather conditions.

During the monsoon season, landslides and heavy rainfall can affect travel, which is why the number of pilgrims also decreases significantly during that period. Apart from this, the post-monsoon and winter Yatra season from September to November is also considered very safe and extremely beautiful because of the clear weather and snow-capped Himalayan views.

Question 7: What are your booking and cancellation policies for Kedarnath Dham packages?

Answer: For confirming a package booking, we generally require a 10% advance payment for transportation, 100% payment for train or flight tickets, and around 50% advance for hotel bookings.

If you cancel a transportation-only package at least 7 days before the travel date, then the transportation advance is 100% refundable. Railway ticket cancellations are subject to IRCTC cancellation rules, while hotel refunds depend entirely on the cancellation policy of the respective hotel.
